The origin of chestnut honey
Chestnut honey is a product named after its tree of origin. Castanea sativa Mill, a tree in the Fagaceae family, like oak and beech, is a major pollen producer. This family of trees is best known for secreting honeydew, not nectar. However, the chestnut tree is an exception to this rule, as it secretes nectar but also honeydew.
Chestnut honey is produced primarily in Italy and Spain. However, it is also found in France, primarily in Corsica. This exceptional honey is found in the Cévennes, Brittany, and the Massif Central. Chestnut honey blooms from June onward and is harvested in July.
Our chestnut honey has a woody, full-bodied, and even bitter flavor . Dark in color, it stands out from other honeys due to its strong odor. A quality artisanal honey that pairs very well with dishes but also with a good cup of tea.
The virtues of chestnut honey
Chestnut honey , like our other honeys , has several benefits for the body. It is rich in vitamins, minerals and trace elements (vitamins B and C, iron, magnesium, potassium, etc.).
In particular, it helps stimulate and strengthen our immune system. Chestnut honey will also fight fatigue, due to its high fructose content. It will promote blood circulation and therefore facilitate the healing of wounds and injuries, like thyme honey .
The benefits of chestnut honey don't stop there; it improves liver and stomach function and helps treat acne. Finally, it slows down cell aging.
As we can see, chestnut honey has many benefits for our body, do not hesitate to make it one of your allies during the day.
